As part of National Volunteers’ Week, I wanted to highlight the great work done by many volunteers in conservation. That’s why I spent time with Gary Beckett the Conservation Officer at Bicester Garrison and Paul Watts, an ornithologist and conservation volunteer at the 2,000+ acre site.
The area which crosses the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire borders is home to a plethora of species from Roe deer and Great crested newts to the Turtle Dove. It really is an ecologist’s dream.
I learnt about ringing and the importance of data collection for keeping track of the bird population on site, understanding how they migrate and where the birds go. Watch the video about this below (duration: 3 minutes).
